Resolving “CBU Failure” Error When Launching DRAWings
If you encounter a CBU Failure error when launching DRAWings, it typically indicates an issue with the USB security dongle or the software key activation. This error can occur shortly after installation or when reinserting the USB dongle, and it prevents the software from launching properly. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
Step 1: Understand the Cause of the Error
A CBU Failure error is commonly caused by one of the following:
- USB Dongle: A loose or improperly connected dongle, or a faulty USB security key.
- Software Key Activation: If using a software key, it may need to be reactivated due to an incomplete or incorrect initial activation.
Step 2: Troubleshooting Steps for USB Security Key Users
If you are using a USB Security Dongle for DRAWings:
- Close the Error Message: Click OK or Close on the CBU Failure error message.
- Reinsert the USB Dongle:
- Remove the USB dongle from the computer.
- Wait 10 seconds before reinserting it into a different USB port, if available. Ensure that the dongle is securely connected to the port directly on the PC and NOT on any USB hub.
- Restart DRAWings: After reinserting the dongle, open DRAWings and check if the software launches correctly.
- If the Issue Persists: If you continue to receive the CBU Failure error, it is likely that the USB dongle may be malfunctioning. Please contact DRAWings support for further assistance or to inquire about a replacement.
Step 3: Troubleshooting Steps for Software Key Users
If you are using a Software Key for activation instead of a USB dongle:
- Locate the Software Key Login Service:
- Find the Software Key Login service in the Windows taskbar. Look for the door key icon (often near the antivirus icon).
- If you don’t see it in the taskbar, use the Windows Search tool next to the Start button. Type “Software Key” and select the application from the results.

- Activate the Software Key:
- In the Software Key Login window, enter your Serial Number and Activation Code as provided with your DRAWings purchase.
- Click the [Activate] button to complete the activation process.
- In the Software Key Login window, enter your Serial Number and Activation Code as provided with your DRAWings purchase.
- Restart DRAWings: Once activated, launch DRAWings to ensure the software opens without the CBU Failure error.
Additional Tips
- Verify Connection: If you’re using a USB hub, plug the dongle directly into the computer’s USB port, as some hubs may cause connection issues.
- Check for Driver Updates: Occasionally, outdated USB or hardware drivers may interfere with dongle recognition. If you have a MARX(silver USB) key with serial starting from 50-00…, download and install the latest drivers from the following link: MARX USB key manufacturer driver
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the CBU Failure error, please contact DRAWings customer support for further assistance. Our team can help with additional steps or options for dongle replacement if necessary.
